Is Studying abroad a good idea?

I've been thinking of studying abroad for a month in the summer of 2012. I"d be in an immersion program where I'd be living with a host family for a month in France. I'll be 14 by the time i go which is the minimum age, and I have studied French since kindergarten but I feel I'm not really learning it since I switched schools and have to take beginners french for the 5th. year in a row. So is it a good idea, or should I do a language camp in France or Switzerland?
